Are You in Denial?

If you read my last post, you already know that many of us have health problems and clearly just ignore them. They think that as long as they feel okay, than how serious can it be.

Your health is something that will snowball into a serious condition if you continue to believe that your okay and there’s nothing wrong with you.

All your health problems will begin with excess amounts of body fat, especially around your waist and lack of exercise. Either one or both will put you at risk. Compromising your immune system is the fastest way to cause health problems and being overweight will do that.

Being overweight or just having too much fat around your waist will cause a fat build-up around your major organs like the Liver and Heart. You don’t necessarily need to be overweight before you have too much body fat. To stay healthy your want to keep your waistline in proportion to your height. The rule-of-thumb is to have a waist measurement half as much as your height. A 5 foot 10 inch person is 70 inches tall and should have a waistline of 35 inches.

Why is that important? We all neglect a lot of the basics. If your body is kept in proportion, you will be able to walk straight. And why is that so important?  Walking properly means that you can keep your back properly in line. So what? you might ask. All the aches and joint pains we have when we get older all start with the way we walk and the curve of our spine (back bone). Carrying around too much belly fat will pull the spine forward and over-time create lower back problems. If you carry around belly fat now you might be thinking your back ache is from your mattress, but it’s probably from the excess belly fat.

Sometimes back aches are the first sign that your carrying around too much belly fat. Carrying too much belly fat causes other problems too. If you want your body to function properly, you have to keep body fat to a healthy percentage of your body mass or less then 25%. If you have a higher percentage of fat your body will have to use body functions to keep that extra mass alive and once you have an unhealthy amount of fat your body will lower some body functions to take care of critical body functions like keeping all your body mass alive. That’s one reason why an overweight person will run out of energy quicker than a thin person.

But it can get worse, running out of energy is just a first sign that your out of shape and overweight. When your overweight your body you will compromise your immune system. You’ll get sick more often, you can contract diseases or illness easier. Being overweight will start a downward spiral that over-time will cause several illness and diseases.
