I know the left-overs are tempting, but resist them. Try and get back on your regular diet as soon as possible. I know it’s too late to talk about how to eat a small Holiday meal, but if you only splurge for that one day you haven’t done much damage. You may have only gained one or two pounds and you can fix that quick. Get rid of the left-overs or just give them away and start to eat normally again. If you over-dosed on animal protein on Thanksgiving and Turkey may not be an animal but it’s still animal protein, so for the next two days, no meat. Try and only eat vegetarian for two days. Yogurt is o.k., and other dairy, fruits and vegetables, rice, beans and whole grain.
After two days of clean eating, you’ll be fine and will have lost any extra pounds you might have picked up. If you still feel bloated stay off meat a few more days, not everyone will rebound as fast as others. Extra walking will also help you rebound and get back to feeling normal.
You will only lose control of your weight if you fall into that Holiday pitfall of eating all the wrong foods at Holiday parties and gatherings. This is the season for parties more than any other time of the year. It seems like you have to visit all the family, people you work with, people at church and don’t forget the neighbors. Oh, and then there’s New Years Eve.
I would always gain ten pounds every Holiday Season. But no more. I was tired you having two closets of clothes. Clothes for Winter and then clothes for after the Holidays. I would spend months trying to lose the extra weight. So now if I gain two pounds, I stop the madness. And get back to a normal diet and in a few days I’m back to normal.
Good Luck, we have 5 more weeks to try to control our appetite.
