Continuing from a previous post

In a previous post a talked about eating being a habit. I read a good post today in a newsletter I subscribe to. I’d like to share some of the important parts.
How often do you eat because your hungry? Often we eat because we’re bored, stressed, anxious or because the food is just there.
Several years ago, my daughter moved in her own apartment and when I visited the frig was almost empty. I asked if she wanted to go shopping with me, I thought that maybe money was tight and her credit card was maxed out. No none of the above. She told me she was going to loose some weight and if she bought it she’d eat it.
A simple solution. Most people today get paid twice a month and do the bulk of their grocery shopping right after they get paid, and then end up eating the food in one week and then make several little trips to the store to carry them over to the next pay day. Going to the store more frequent is a better idea. Buy what you need for three days or so, and then go back and get more for three more days. I know it sounds like it will cost you a more, but you have to be disciplined and buy for meals and not to fill up the frig or pantry. Stay away from snack food, buy fresh and not those meals in a box. When you eat real food the protein will fill you up so you won’t need to snack and the veggies will give you the vitamins to stay healthy.
When you get cravings do some thing else. Stretching is great and after 5 minutes you’ll lose those cravings.
Do some exercise like walking, or climbing the stairs at home a few times.
Brush your teeth, this often kills the taste in your mouth and the cravings go away.
Call a friend it a great idea and it takes your mind off the craving and after 5 or 10 minutes you forgot about it.
Personally, I exercise at night and that keeps me out of the frig. I can stay busy and still watch TV.
